Review: “Energetic Boundaries: How to Stay Protected and Connected in Work, Love, and Life” by Cyndi Dale

“Energetic Boundaries: How to Stay Protected in Work, Love, and Life,” by Cyndi Dale, was extremely helpful in equipping me with the necessary tools to continue boldly on my spiritual path.  For as long as I can remember, I have always been very sensitive.  And at some point along the way, I recognized that most of the uncomfortable sensitivity I was feeling was actually the absorption of other people’s emotions.  This revelation was a great relief to me.  However, I didn’t have a clue as to how to protect myself from those inevitable waves of foreign emotions.  I decided to invest in Dale’s book to gain insight and ideas on how I might better deal with these situations.

The first chapter discusses what is energy and what is an energetic field.  Energy is described as “information that vibrates or moves.”  Energy can be anything from a couch to satellite transmissions.  Dale explains that our physical and spiritual energies are made up of: 1) channels (meridians), 2) centers (chakras), and 3) fields, including the Auric field.  Channels, or meridians, carry energy throughout your body.  Your fields read the centers, or chakras, to know what information to bring within the body and what to let out of the body.  When two people interact, their fields meet and merge.  This is why we can feel that we know a person even if we are meeting for the first time.  We are receiving information about them and vice versa.  Dale then provides scientific verification of her energy analysis.  She discusses how electricity pulsing cells create energy fields and outlines the development of scientific tools, such as Kirlian photography, used to measure electromagnetic energy fields such as auras.

Chapter two describes in-depth the four energetic boundaries (physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual) and how they can be compromised.  She states that these boundaries serve to: 1) provide protection, 2) filter energy and information, and 3) act as a magnetizing agent drawing to us what we need.  If our boundaries become compromised, they may become “rigid or immobilized,” “permeable,” or “cut full of holes.”  I resonated with her belief that experiencing intolerance to different spiritual ways of life compromises one’s spiritual boundary.

I found chapter three extremely helpful.  Here she details what she terms “spiritual syndromes” or issues arising from compromised energy boundaries.  Dale discusses the following syndromes and how to eradicate them: 1) Paper Doll (unable to break negative cycles), 2) Vampire (allowing people to suck your energy), 3) Mule (an inability to say “no”), 4) Psychic-Sensitive (knowing what’s really going on), 5) Healer’s (combination of Mule and Vampire), 6) No-Boundary (struggle to set boundaries), and 7) Environ (experiences toxicity of the environment).  I enjoyed and benefitted immensely from Dale’s explanations of inhibiting contracts such as cords, co-dependent bargains, curses, bindings, energy markers, holds, filaments, and miasm.  She then expertly describes how to get rid of the afore-mentioned contracts.

Chapters four and five describe in great detail practical solutions and exercises for preventing boundary issues and fixing compromised boundaries.  Dale discusses techniques such as setting an attention, knowing your “storyline,” various meditations, connecting to the universe, and working with shapes, colors, crystals, and chakras.  When I go out into the world, whenever I remember to do so, I cloak myself in the colors of pink (love), red (protection), and silver (reflection) – in that order.  This visualization helps me to feel safe and secure and reminds me of the Biblical concept of putting on the armor of God found in Ephesians 6:10-18.  The silver plates that I imagine covering my body is especially important, as any ill intentions directed at me, bounce off and back onto the person sending the bad energy.  I also use shapes when I meditate, particularly the pyramid.  I find it centering and a sign that I am connected to my higher self.  Of course everyone will resonate with different protection practices which is why Dale provides an excellent variation of techniques.

Chapters six through nine discuss the specific topics of work success, money, love and relationships, and parenting and their relationships to energetic boundaries.  Chapter six explains the how and why of protecting energetic boundaries in the workplace.  Dale states that, “If we’re using our gifts to develop more love in this world, we are working.  If someone or something is blocking our gifts or our ability to use them in the world, we’ll be frustrated, angry, depressed, anxious, and maybe even ill.”  She then details specific practices that can protect your boundaries in the workplace such as eating particular foods, humming certain octaves, and receiving body work.  My favorite part of this chapter is where she describes how caregivers can make certain that they do not become depleted and disillusioned with their work.

Chapter seven discusses why money flow is important to your spiritual maturity, and mental and physical health.  Financial issues ranging from debt to lack to overspending is linked to emotional issues.  Dale connects the four energetic boundaries in their ideal state to ideas about money.  She observes that physically, money should provide security; emotionally, money should provide joy; relationally, money reflects love and power; and spiritually, money can be a means of fulfilling a higher calling.  Dale uses client anecdotes to explain how emotional issues can determine your financial state.  She believes that influences such as our mothers’ physical cells and our ancestors’ DNA contribute to how we develop financial issues.  She then gives tips to assist with strengthening boundaries in relation to money such as, programming money with specific intent and seeing all money flow, whether it’s going in or out, as nourishment for your needs.

In chapter eight, Dale focuses on strategies to assist in boundary issues relating to relationships, be them romantic or platonic.  She explains that these issues usually begin in the physical when we are children through touch and how touch can either benefit the receiver or damage her.  Dale discusses crystals and their ability to boost love related qualities, colors to wear to promote or alleviate certain feelings, decorative ideas to enhance your home for love, and visualizations – such as sitting within a pyramid – to protect from others’ emotions.

Chapter nine explains how to teach your children about energetic boundaries.  Of particular interest, is the fact that she describes the five types of spiritual personalities that she feels are currently on the earth at this time and how to relate to them.  These five personalities consist of: 1) “Construct Souls” (sustainers of our institutions), 2) “Bridge Souls” (connect people, cultures, and ideas), 3) “Indigo Souls” (leaders of creating a new world), 4) “Crystal Souls” (psychic sensitives), and 5) “Spirit Souls” (angels on earth).  Dale ends the chapter with a color exercise that teaches children how to use color to protect their boundaries.

I believe that this is a wonderful book for anyone interested in learning how to protect their energetic boundaries, especially caregivers and energy workers.  Dale provides a balance of useful techniques, engaging anecdotes, and scientific explanations.  I have integrated several of her suggestions into my everyday life, of course with my own special spin on them!  I highly recommend this book and will be reading it again when I feel the need.
